Ceramics: Blue Corn & Swentzell

Crucita Gonzalez Calabaza, also known as Blue Corn, was a well known and very influential ceramicist in her time, one who continues to exert great influence on the artform long after her passing. Compare and contrast Blue Corn’s work with that of Roxanne Swentzell, a sculptor from the Santa Clara Pueblo. Present us an overview of the lives and careers of both artists. Describe their work and give us a sense of (1) how each draws inspiration from the traditions of Pueblo pottery and (2) how each artist worked to make her own, more modern mark on the art form.
