The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Chinese government have collaborated on public health priorities that affect China, the U.S., and the global community for more than 30 years. CDC focuses its China-based work on HIV/AIDS, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, immunizations, workforce development, influenza, noncommunicable diseases, laboratory quality and safety, and global health security.

The U.S. cannot protect its borders and the health of its citizens without addressing diseases elsewhere in the world. CDC works 24/7 to protect Americans and save lives around the world by detecting and controlling outbreaks at their source. In addition, CDC helps other countries increase their ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health threats on their own.

To accomplish this, policymakers must target the underlying problem afflicting health care in the United States: it costs far too much. Not only does the country spend much more on health care than its peers--18 percent of GDP in 2016--but that investment has failed to translate into better outcomes.
