Why have search terms?

If there is a key to successfully research a topic in the 1960s, it is to have the right search terms. Since this was a period when social causes, political issues, and popular culture profoundly influenced each other, you will have to be creative in selecting search terms.

Even if you are interested in a specific issue, you may want to think of the people involved in it.

  • Who were the national leaders at this time?
  • Which political party was involved in it?
  • Which social movements were involved?
  • What events happened during this time?
  • What institution, city, or region were at the focus of the issue?
