United States History (2024-25): Citation Tools

Noodletools

You can use NoodleTools to help create your citation and footnotes by logging in using the Google log in and your Wheeler School email address.  Make sure you create a project with Advanced Chicago Style citations. If you need any help, ask a Prescott Librarian or check out the NoodleTools Help Desk

Find Images!

One of the benefits of using images found through Britannica Image Quest is that you do NOT need to cite these images in your bibliography, or create a full caption for them in your project.

You do need to add informational captions to your photos and you do need to include a statement like this one on your first or final slides: “All images unless otherwise captioned are from Britannica Image Quest and are rights-cleared for educational use.”

Any images found from other websites still need to be cited and captioned.

Useful Instructions

Cite the Sites You Sight

At Wheeler School, your history projects need to include a Chicago Manual of Style bibliography and footnotes. You can use Noodletools for tracking sources, notetaking, and creating your bibliography and footnotes.

Reminder: You need to cite all sources used in your paper whether they are written (e.g. articles, books, etc.), visual (e.g. photos, graphs, etc.) or other formats (e.g. a song, etc). Some common things that must be cited include, but are not limited to:

a. direct quotation of another person’s words,

b. a paraphrase of another person’s words, ideas, etc.

c. use of a term/idea from another person’s work, etc.

Sample Chicago Style Citations

You can use Noodletools to create these citations and export a bibliography, but here are some sample citations for your reference. You can find additional samples through the Purdue OWL.
